WORLD IVF DAY 2023.
Every year, July 25th is set aside to celebrate IVF and the scientists who make it happen – The Embryologists.
Embryologists are medical scientists who study and examine sperm, eggs, and embryos.
IVF is a complex series of procedures used to avert fertility or/ and genetic challenges and assist with the conception of a child. During the IVF process, eggs at their maturation point are collected from the ovary in the woman and fertilized with sperm from the man. The embryos formed by the fertilization process are then transferred into the woman’s uterus, and pregnancy begins!
World IVF / Embrologist Day was first celebrated on July 25th 1978, when the first IVF baby, Louis Joy Brown, was born. The success of the procedure and delivery changed the history of Fertility and Reproductive Health globally.
FUN FACTS!
The three main scientists who pioneered the IVF procedure were Adam Burnley, Patrick Steptoe and Bob Edwards. They are honored on this day for their amazing contribution to medical science.
World IVF Day is celebrated worldwide to spread its awareness and share the joy it has brought to countless families.
IVF is the last line of fertility treatment and is recommended when other less invasive treatments like ovarian stimulation, sperm boosting, hormonal treatments, and IUI have failed. Since the first baby was born in 1978, over 8 million babies have been born through the process, bringing joy, restoring hope, and making families complete.
